What is the Stanford Journal of International Affairs?

The Stanford Journal of International Affairs publishes undergraduate scholarship on international policy topics annually. The Journal seeks to promote awareness and facilitate discussion about global politics, transnational social and economic issues, international culture, and related topics. SJIA is committed to bringing together a broad range of perspectives to help our readers navigate the complexities of contemporary foreign affairs.

SJIA accepts editor applications every fall. Any Stanford undergraduate is welcome to submit to our journal.

Meet the Team

  • Noah Tan

    CO-EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

    Noah is a senior studying international relations with concentrations in international security and economy. He serves as the co-Editor-in-Chief for SJIA for the 2024-2025 term. His research focuses on the security implications of antidumping remedies and countervailing duties on global value chains. While on campus, Noah is involved as a research assistant at the Center for International Security and Cooperation, former President of the Stanford Pre-Law Society, and a member of the Stanford Men's Rowing Team. In his free time, Noah enjoys skiing and rock climbing.

  • Marcelo Peña

    CO-EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

    Marcelo is the Co-Editor in Chief of SJIA for the 2024-2025 term. Originally from Lima, Peru, he is a double-major in Political Science and Computer Science at Stanford. On campus, he's worked on research projects around Latin American Democracy at CDDRL and AI-robotics at the Stanford AI Lab. In his free time, he likes cooking Peruvian food and hosting friends for dinner.

  • Zoya Fasihuddin

    MANAGING EDITOR

    Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, Zoya is a Junior studying Economics and Human Rights. She has been involved with SJIA for the past 2 years, and is extremely excited to be Managing Editor this year! She loves to write, especially on topics related to international law, gender equality, and global corporate governance. On campus, she is involved with Stanford Women in Business, Alpha Phi, and research on female micro-finance initiatives at the King Center for Global Development. She also works part time at the SHARE (Sexual Harassment/Assault Response & Education) Title IX Office. In her free time, Zoya is passionate about books, color-coding, and music!

  • Sita Antel

    DIRECTOR OF OUTREACH

    Sita is super happy to be back for her third year of SIAS. She started out as a fellow in her freshman year and has now grown very attached to the Stanford Journal of International Affairs which she has worked on since its inception. She studies Art History and Slavic Literature and can often be seen acting mysterious around the McMurtry building. While originally from San Diego, she has taken to life abroad, spending her past summer working in Riga, Latvia and planning to head to Oxford this Winter. She is interested in the intersection of art and nationalism (watch out for her show in Bowes library this Spring) and wants to work in the museum field.

  • Lorraine Cioffi

    DIRECTOR OF DESIGN

    Lorraine (she/her) is a junior studying Psychology, Economics, and/or Public Policy. She is a local from about 15 mins away off-campus. She served as SJIA’s Director of Design and looks forward to strengthening the next year’s journal design based on everything she learned as this past year’s Director. At Stanford, she’s been an active executive member in Stanford Women in Law (SWIL) and spent her first summer working in the Emotion and Culture Lab and this past summer at a local boutique law firm.   • Gabi Reitz

    EDITOR

    Gabi (she/her) is a senior studying International Relations. This is her third year in SIAS, during which she has served in programming, MUN, and now as an editor for the Journal. Originally from Colorado, Gabi loves hiking, camping, and running. She has also lived in New York City, where she interned for the NYC Commission on Human Rights; Washington, D.C., where she interned in the U.S. Senate; and Florence, Italy, where she studied through Stanford's BOSP program. On campus, Gabi conducts research through the King Center on Global Development and is writing her honors thesis through the Center for International Security and Cooperation. Gabi loves editing, International Relations, and SIAS! Yay!

  • Katherine Xu

    EDITOR

    Katherine (she/her) is a sophomore studying Symbolic Systems on the AI track. She is from Columbus, Ohio and serves as an editor for the SJIA. At Stanford, she's involved in research and is the Director of Outreach for Women in Computer Science. In her free time, she hiking, curating increasingly niche Spotify playlists and consuming an inhumane amount of boba.

  • Mirabai Herz

    EDITOR

    Mirabai is a sophomore studying economics and psychology. Alongside her role as an editor for the Stanford Journal of International Affairs, she enjoys contemplating moral quandaries through Stanford's Ethics Bowl and Bioethics teams, exploring how mindsets impact health through her research at the Mind and Body Lab, and riding for Stanford's equestrian team. Mirabai is interested in examining the biological and behavioral antecedents of decision-making and hopes to use her understanding of cross-cultural influences to help people better shape their lives. A Colorado native, she can be found using her free time to read, hike, volunteer, or learn new languages with her family. She is excited to join the SIAS board and is looking forward to an amazing year!

  • Tianren Li

    EDITOR

    Tianren Li is a rising sophomore majoring in International Relations and Economics and is thrilled to be apart of the SJIA team as editor again in the 2024-2025 year! Tianren is from Shenzhen China and loves the Stanford community serving as a FSL at the Haas center as well as being apart of Stanford Pre-Law society and Stanford in Government. In her free time she likes to go to live concerts, read about art and fashion history and try out new things!

  • Alexandra Beyret

    EDITOR

    Alexandra is excited to return to SIAS for another year as an editor for the Stanford Journal of International Affairs. As a sophomore from Gilroy, CA, Alexandra is studying mathematics and geophysics and is also interested in international relations and human rights. She's extremely passionate about Eastern European and Middle Eastern history and rights, and as an editor of the journal, she is excited to read more about global issues and expand her understanding of the intersectional nature of international affairs.

  • Marco Widodo

    EDITOR

    Marco (he/him) is a junior majoring in Political Science with concentrations in Political Economy & Development and Data Science, and he's excited to serve as an Editor for the Stanford Journal of International Affairs this year! His background lies in historical studies of race and ethnicity, particularly in tracing how different colonial influences map onto nation-building strategies and intergroup dynamics. His current research interests center on comparative studies of democracy and development, especially with how international and domestic security issues affect democratic governance and state stability. In his spare time, he loves listening to jazz, going camping, and finding new places to eat!

  • Evan Sing

    EDITOR

    Evan is a junior studying International Relations with minors in Russian and economics. He is from Chelsea, Michigan and is serving as an editor for the Stanford Journal of International Affairs. Evan loves learning languages and spent the 2024 Summer in Tbilisi, Georgia studying Russian. At Stanford, he is involved with research at the Hoover History Lab and volunteers with Habla helping dining hall and other campus staff learn English. Outside of school, Evan loves trying new foods and playing tennis.

  • Erik Bradley

    EDITOR

    Erik is a senior studying Political Science (Political Economy/International Relations) and Computer Science, working as an editor for the Journal of International Affairs. His interests in international affairs—specifically, trade, intellectual property, and pandemics—are rooted in his experience at the Covid Subcommittee, where he worked during his quarter at Stanford in Washington (Winter, '24). Erik is from the Seattle area, and spends his free time reading, running, and exploring new hiking trails.
